The lake has multiple hot springs that can be explored on foot, allowing you to try out their therapeutic properties on your skin. The lake has a huge array of birds, and we often find a great number of Lesser Flamingos and Greater Flamingos among other waterbirds. This is a soda lake that hosts a local soda ash mining factory. On our second day of the Lake Natron and Lake Magadi Safari, we shall enjoy exploring the vast and beautiful Lake Magadi area. We shall enjoy a relaxed afternoon in camp as we enjoy some great sun bathing. In the afternoon, we shall proceed to the beautiful Lake Magadi area, one of the Great Rift Valley Lakes. Here you will enjoy learning about the findings of the peoples of the Acheuleus or “Hand axe” culture. Scientific evidence has shown that this place used to host a lake basin that acted as the lifeline of human species about 100,000 to 200,000 years ago. This is often referred as the “factory of stone tools” and indeed it has many of these. We shall continue our Lake Natron and Lake Magadi Safari to the famous Olorgesailie pre-historic site and museum. Our guide will share the story of the Ngong Hills and then you proceed down the escarpment into the Great Rift Valley. The Ngong Hills have been made famous by the book and film Out of Africa, which features the story of Karen Blixen. Our Lake Natron and Lake Magadi Safari will kick off at the amazing and historical Ngong Hills view point.
